The Mansion House, located in the City of London, is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London. Designed by George Dance the Elder in the Palladian style and built primarily in the 1740s, this Grade I listed building serves as the venue for some of the City's most formal state functions. It hosts two annual white tie dinners: an Easter banquet where the Foreign Secretary speaks and receives a reply from the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, and an early June gathering where the Chancellor of the Exchequer delivers remarks on the British economy. The Mansion House Speech of 1911, delivered by David Lloyd George, remains among the most historically significant addresses given within its walls, warning Germany against opposing British influence in the period preceding the First World War.
