Marble Hill House is a Neo-Palladian villa in Twickenham, London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, built between 1724 and 1729 as the residence of Henrietta Howard, Countess of Suffolk. Designed by Henry Herbert, 9th Earl of Pembroke, Roger Morris, and Colen Campbell, its compact yet elegant proportions swiftly became influential, establishing a template for the Georgian English villa and inspiring plantation houses in the American colonies. The house passed to the London County Council and opened to the public in 1903, becoming the first eighteenth-century house in England to be preserved by a public body. Following restoration by the Greater London Council from 1965 onward, it came under the stewardship of English Heritage and remains Grade I listed.
