Marburg Castle, perched atop Schlossberg in Hesse, Germany, originated as a fortification in the 11th century before becoming the primary residence of the Landgraviate of Hesse within the Holy Roman Empire. The castle gained historical significance as the venue for the Marburg Colloquy in 1529, a pivotal religious disputation of the Reformation era. Today the structure serves dual purposes: since 1981 it has housed the Marburger Universitätsmuseum für Kulturgeschichte (the Wilhelmsbau), while also functioning as an event venue, preserving its role as a landmark central to regional history and culture.
