Meersburg Castle, also called the Alte Burg, stands on the shores of Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg and ranks among Germany's oldest continuously inhabited castles. Its central tower was first erected in the 7th century, though the original structure remains hidden beneath later constructions. Distinguished as the "old castle" in contrast to the neighboring 18th-century New Castle, it now functions as a museum and is designated a Kulturdenkmal (cultural monument).
