Glücksburg Castle, located in the town of Glücksburg in Schleswig-Holstein on Germany's Flensburg Firth, is one of the most significant Renaissance castles in Northern Europe. Built in 1583 as a water castle, it served as the headquarters of the ducal house of Glücksburg and temporarily as a primary residence of Danish monarchs. The castle's ducal family derived their name from the structure and became related to nearly all European dynasties. Today recognized as a heritage monument, the castle functions as a popular museum open to the public and remains one of the most celebrated landmarks in Schleswig-Holstein.
