Built between 1934 and 1935 in Marcell Township, Minnesota, the Marcell Ranger Station served as headquarters for the Marcell District of Chippewa National Forest. Designed by the United States Forest Service in the National Park Service rustic style, the station exemplifies the administrative facilities constructed during the New Deal era. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994 at the state level of significance for its architecture, conservation, and governmental roles, it represents both the expansion of Chippewa National Forest and a well-preserved example of Forest Service building practices from that period. The ranger station closed in 2001 and was subsequently converted into Marcell Lodge, a vacation rental. A 1963 office building adjacent to Minnesota State Highway 38 was repurposed as the Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center, serving as a visitor facility for the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway.
