Spanning the Trinity River in Dallas, the Margaret McDermott Bridge is a contemporary freeway structure that combines a conventional concrete pier-and-beam design for vehicular traffic with distinctive cable-stayed bike lanes. Partially designed by Santiago Calatrava, the bridge replaced an aging Interstate 30 crossing from the late 1950s to early 1960s. Part of the larger Trinity River Project and Horseshoe Project urban initiatives, it was named for Margaret McDermott, a local philanthropist whose support advanced the region's development.
