The Metroon at Ancient Olympia is a Doric temple constructed in the fourth century BCE, dedicated to Meter (the Mother of the Gods) within the sanctuary's sacred precinct. Built in the austere style characteristic of Classical Greek architecture, the structure exemplifies the Doric order with its sturdy columns and restrained ornamentation. Today it survives as an archaeological site, its ruins testifying to the religious significance of the goddess's cult at Olympia and the sanctuary's role as a major religious center in ancient Greece.
