Morden is the southern terminus of the Northern line and the most southerly station on the London Underground network. Designed by Charles Holden and opened in 1926, it was among the first modernist designs created for the Underground system, combining Art Deco and modern architectural elements. Located in the London Borough of Merton on London Road (the A24) in fare zone 4, the station sits at ground level near Morden Hall Park and Morden Park. Its arrival proved transformative for the surrounding area: the parish population increased ninefold between 1921 and 1931 as the station catalyzed suburban development in what had previously been rural Surrey.
