The Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America, located on a hill called Mount Saint Sepulcher in the Brookland neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., is a Byzantine Revival complex designed by Aristide Leonori and built in 1899. Anchored by the Memorial Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the monastery encompasses gardens, replicas of shrines from throughout the Holy Land, a replica of the Roman catacombs, an archive, and a library. The site also houses the bones of Saint Benignus of Armagh, originally from the Roman catacombs and formerly preserved in the cathedral of Narni, Italy. The complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites.
