Muro Miyayama Kofun, located in the Muro neighborhood of Gose in Nara Prefecture, is a large burial mound of the Kofun period, estimated to have been constructed in the early 5th century. Built in the zenpō-kōen-fun style—a keyhole-shaped funerary form characteristic of the era—it ranks as the largest tumulus in the Katsuragi region and the 18th largest in all of Japan. Designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1921, the mound has seen its protected area expanded twice, in 2022 and 2024, reflecting ongoing recognition of its archaeological significance.
