The Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver showcases world arts and cultures with particular emphasis on First Nations of the Pacific Northwest. Designed by architects Arthur Erickson and Nick Milkovich and built in 1947, the museum exemplifies brutalist architecture in concrete. Beyond its role as a major tourist destination, MOA functions as a research and teaching institution where UBC offers courses in art, anthropology, archaeology, conservation, and museum studies. The building houses approximately 50,000 ethnographic objects and 535,000 archaeological objects.
