Museumplein is a public square in Amsterdam's Museumkwartier neighbourhood, designed by Pierre Cuypers following the completion of the Rijksmuseum in 1885 and formalized in 1903. Developed on land that was formerly a wax candle factory and marshy meadows, the square anchors three major museums—the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum—alongside the Concertgebouw concert hall. The space was substantially reconstructed in 1999 according to designs by Swedish-Danish landscape architect Sven-Ingvar Andersson, incorporating underground parking and retail facilities. The square's centerpiece pond can be converted into an ice skating rink during winter months and serves as a versatile venue for festivals, celebrations, demonstrations, and sporting events.
