Located at the corner of Lambton Quay, Hunter Street, and Featherston Street in Wellington, the Mutual Life & Citizens Assurance Company Building is an Art Deco office building completed in 1940 by W.M. Angus Ltd. for the Australian-based insurance company MLC, at a cost of £101,494. The building served as MLC's head office until 1985, when New Zealand Insurance acquired the New Zealand branch. A distinctive clock was added to the façade in 1953, arriving three months after the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Recognized as a Category 1 historic place by Heritage New Zealand for its special cultural and historical significance, the building remains a notable example of interwar commercial architecture in the capital.
