The Nagoya City Art Museum, designed by Kisho Kurokawa and opened in April 1988, stands in Shirakawa Park in Naka-ku, Nagoya. Its collection centers on four principal areas: local art from the Nagoya cultural region, the École de Paris, the Mexican Renaissance, and postwar and contemporary art. The museum's permanent holdings include works by surrealist Kansuke Yamamoto, Sean Scully, and Alexander Calder, while its exhibition history encompasses artists ranging from Hakuyō Fuchikami and Nakaji Yasui to contemporary sculptor Jean-Michel Othoniel.
