Located in Sakae at the heart of Nagoya, the Nagoya City Science Museum opened in 1962 as a design by Nikken Sekkei. The institution houses one of the world's largest planetariums and organizes its collections into three main sections covering modern technology, life sciences, and general science, featuring numerous hands-on exhibits. A major renovation in 2012 accompanied the planetarium's opening, after which the upper floors were redesigned to showcase space and future technology through interactive touch-screen displays. The museum emphasizes accessibility for younger visitors, with child-oriented exhibits including a model railway in the transport section, and maintains galleries highlighting the Chubu region's scientific and industrial heritage. Situated within Shirakawa Park alongside the Nagoya City Art Museum, the building occupies a strategic location between Osu Kannon and Fushimi subway stations along Fushimi-Dori.
