Located at 250 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the New England Confectionery Company Factory is a Moderne-style industrial complex built of reinforced concrete, finished predominantly in beige brick with limestone trim and smooth concrete accents on select facades. Constructed to manufacture Necco candies, the sprawling factory occupies most of an entire city block and includes the main factory building, a power plant, and a modern parking garage added in 2003. A distinctive water tower originally painted to resemble a roll of Necco Wafers remains on the property; it has since been repainted with a DNA pattern in pastel colors during recent alterations when Novartis leased the complex. The factory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
