New Wardour Castle is a Grade I listed Palladian country house near Tisbury in Wiltshire, built for the Arundell family between 1769 and 1776. Designed by architect James Paine, the house exemplifies the refined proportions and classical vocabulary of eighteenth-century Palladian style. Giacomo Quarenghi, a principal architect of Saint Petersburg, contributed subsequent additions to the design. The completed estate was positioned approximately three-quarters of a mile from Old Wardour Castle, the family's earlier seat, which had been damaged during the English Civil War and was retained as a picturesque landscape feature. The house later served as home to Cranborne Chase School, an independent boarding school for girls, from 1961 to 1990, before further additions were made in the 1970s and 1980s.
