New York City Hall, the seat of municipal government in Lower Manhattan, stands as the oldest city hall in the United States still serving its original governmental purpose. Completed in 1812 after construction began in 1803, the building occupies the center of City Hall Park at the intersection of Broadway, Park Row, and Chambers Street. Designed by Joseph-François Mangin and John McComb Jr., it blends French Renaissance, Federal, Georgian, and Renaissance Revival architectural traditions, its granite, marble, and limestone façade reflecting the refined aesthetic ambitions of the early republic. The building houses the Mayor's office and the New York City Council chambers. Both its exterior and interior have been designated New York City Landmarks, and the structure holds status as a National Historic Landmark and National Register of Historic Places listing.
