The Nittele Tower is a 32-storey high-tech office building completed in 2003 in Minato, Tokyo, serving as the headquarters of Nippon Television. Standing 192.8 metres tall, the structural expressionist design was developed by Mitsubishi Jisho Design in collaboration with Richard Rogers Partnership. The building's most distinctive feature is a pair of large sculptural forms flanking its exterior that, while appearing decorative, function as sophisticated engineering elements to counteract wind loads and seismic forces. The tower incorporates an advanced damping system comprising tuned mass dampers for habitability, oil dampers for wind-induced vibrations and moderate earthquakes, unbonded bracing dampers, and link beam dampers designed to withstand extreme seismic events.
