Kyoto Tower, officially renamed Nidec Kyoto Tower, is a steel observation tower completed in 1964 and designed by Mamoru Yamada. Rising 131 metres above Kyoto, it stands as the city's tallest structure, with its observation deck positioned at 100 metres. The 800-ton tower is mounted atop a nine-story building that contains a three-star hotel and retail shops, and the entire complex sits directly opposite Kyōto Station in Shimogyō-ku.
