Notre-Dame du Haut, a Roman Catholic chapel in Ronchamp, France, stands as one of the finest examples of Le Corbusier's modernist vision. Completed in 1955 and constructed of concrete, this neo-expressionist structure departs radically from traditional ecclesiastical forms, instead embracing sculptural, organic geometry that has become iconic in twentieth-century architecture. A functioning religious building overseen by the Association de l'Œuvre de Notre-Dame du Haut, the chapel draws approximately 80,000 visitors annually. In 2016, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List alongside sixteen other Le Corbusier works, recognized for its pivotal contribution to the development of modernist architecture. The building is also designated a French historical monument.
