The Old Sussex County Courthouse stands in Georgetown, Delaware, a two-story, five-bay frame structure built in 1793 and sheathed in cypress shingles that exemplifies late Georgian architecture. Originally sited on The Circle, the building was relocated to its present location in 1837 and converted to residential use after the construction of a new county courthouse. The State of Delaware acquired the property in 1962, and a major renovation was undertaken in 1974. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, it remains a significant survivor of late-eighteenth-century Delaware institutional architecture.
