The Oriental Apartments, a two-story Tudor Revival structure built in 1926 in southeast Portland, Oregon, exemplifies early twentieth-century multi-family residential design. Constructed by engineer and contractor Curtis A. Gardner for real-estate developer C.E. Beeman, the 12,165-square-foot building originally housed 13 studio apartments and three one-bedroom units, each with standardized floor plans arranged along central hallways on either level. The façade features brick cladding, decorative gables and spandrels, and a distinctive round-arched entrance portal characteristic of the Tudor Revival style. Interior innovations include Murphy-bed closets and leaded-glass cupboards separating kitchen preparation areas from dining spaces. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, the building represents a pragmatic approach to compact urban housing during the interwar period.
