Located in Ōta, Gunma Prefecture in the northern Kantō region, the Ōta Tenjin-yama Kofun is a massive burial mound constructed around 500 CE during the Kofun period. As a zenpō-kōen-fun—a keyhole-shaped tumulus combining a rectangular and circular section—it represents the architectural apex of its era. Designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1941, it stands as the largest kofun in Gunma Prefecture and the 28th largest in the entire country, achieving the distinction of being the only keyhole-shaped mound exceeding 200 meters in length throughout eastern Japan.
