Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral in Elvas, Portugal, is a Manueline religious building designed by Francisco de Arruda and constructed beginning in 1517. Located in the Republic Square within the parish of the Assumption, this former cathedral served a significant spiritual role during the War of Restoration, when thousands of soldiers sought its sanctuary for prayer and solace. Designated a National Monument of Portugal, the building reflects the architectural ambitions of early 16th-century Portugal. In 2014, it was incorporated into a military tourism initiative developed by the Ministry of National Defense and Turismo de Portugal, designed to revitalize historical sites through themed itineraries celebrating Portuguese military heritage.
