The Palais de Tokyo, located at 13 avenue du Président-Wilson in Paris's 16th arrondissement facing the Trocadéro, is a modern Art Deco building housing two distinct cultural institutions. Designed by architect Jean-Philippe Vassal and completed in 2000, the structure is divided between the eastern wing, which belongs to the City of Paris and contains the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, and the western wing, owned by the French state and home since 2002 to the Palais de Tokyo / Site de création contemporaine—France's largest venue for temporary contemporary art exhibitions. Separated from the Seine by Avenue de New-York, the building takes its name from the former street designation. Now designated a monument historique inscrit, it serves as a major nexus for modern and contemporary art in Paris, easily accessible via the nearby Iéna station on Metro Line 9.
