Built in 1927 in Bremen's Mitte district, the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum was the first museum in the world devoted to a female artist. Designed by Bernhard Hoetger in the Brick Expressionism style, the building houses key works spanning the creative career of Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876–1907), one of the most important early Expressionists. The museum is designated a protected cultural heritage monument in the state of Bremen.
