Penoyre House, a nineteenth-century country house in Battle, Powys, Wales, was designed by architect Anthony Salvin and built between 1846 and 1848 for Colonel John Lloyd Vaughan Watkins. Executed in the Italianate style, it represents what architectural historian Mark Girouard identified as "Salvin's most ambitious classical house." The ambitious undertaking proved financially ruinous for its patron; the enormous construction costs nearly bankrupted the family, forcing the sale of the property merely three years after the Colonel's death. Following institutional use from 1947 onward, the building was converted to apartments in the early twenty-first century. The house is Grade II* listed, while its gardens hold Grade II status on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.
