Powerscourt Estate, located in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, is a large Irish country estate centred on a house that began as a 13th-century castle before German architect Richard Cassels transformed it into a Palladian mansion between 1731 and 1741. The extensively remodeled house stood as the family seat of the Viscounts Powerscourt until it passed to the Slazenger family in 1961. A devastating fire in 1974 reduced the structure to a shell, but it was restored in 1996. Today the 19-hectare estate is a major tourist destination, encompassing notable landscaped gardens alongside a golf club, restaurant, and hotel.
