The Phillips Library in Rowley, Massachusetts, is a rare books and special collections library built in 1852 in the Italianate style by architect Gridley James Fox Bryant. Originally formed from the merged collections of the Peabody Museum of Salem and the Essex Institute—which united in 1992 to create the Peabody Essex Museum—the library preserves materials named after benefactors from the Phillips family. Its Italianate design reflects the architectural tastes of mid-nineteenth-century New England institutional building.
