Pinkerton Building
Tacoma, United States

Exterior only
Visible from the street; the inside is private.
The Pinkerton Building, completed in 1889 on what is now the University of Washington Tacoma campus, exemplifies the Italianate architectural style favored in the late nineteenth century. Designed by the architectural firm Proctor and Dennis, the brick structure reflects the period's aesthetic preferences with characteristic arched openings and decorative detailing typical of the Italianate mode. As one of Tacoma's early institutional buildings, it remains a notable example of the city's nineteenth-century architectural heritage.
