The Perkins Building, an eight-story structure completed in 1907 in Tacoma, Washington, exemplifies the Chicago School style with its rigid concrete frame and brick facade. Originally constructed to house the offices of the Tacoma Ledger and Daily News, it was the tallest reinforced concrete building in the Northwest and the first on the West Coast to feature a basement parking garage. The building's footprint nearly doubled in 1909 with the addition of its southern half, expanding its presence on South A Street. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it stands as a significant early example of reinforced concrete construction and modernization in the Pacific Northwest.
