The Plaza de toros de las Arenas is a neo-Mudéjar bullring designed by August Font i Carreras and opened on June 29, 1900, in Barcelona's La Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample district. The structure hosted its final bullfight on June 19, 1977, after which it transitioned to cultural uses, serving as a music venue that featured performances by Carlos Santana and Paco de Lucia in 1977. The building was comprehensively transformed and reopened in 2011 as Arenas de Barcelona, a shopping and entertainment complex. Protected as part of Catalonia's cultural heritage, the building represents a striking example of early twentieth-century Catalan architectural ambition adapted to contemporary commercial purposes.
