The Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid's Salamanca district is Spain's largest bullfighting ring and the second-largest still in active operation worldwide, with a seating capacity of 23,798. Designed by architect José Espeliú and inaugurated on June 17, 1931, the structure exemplifies Neo-Mudéjar and Moorish Revival architecture, distinguished by ornamental ceramic incrustations. The arena's ten tiered seating sections, or tendidos, command variable prices according to proximity to the ring and sun exposure, with shaded seats commanding premium rates. The bullfighting season runs from March through October, with daily performances during Madrid's San Isidro Fiesta and Sunday or holiday fights otherwise; events typically begin at 6 or 7pm and extend two to three hours.
