La Monumental is a bullring in Barcelona's Eixample district, designed by Manuel Joaquim Raspall i Mayol and inaugurated in 1914 as the Plaza de El Sport. Expanded and renamed by 1916, the structure blends noucentista origins with a striking neo-Mudéjar and Byzantine-influenced façade created during renovation work by Ignasi Mas i Morell and Domènec Sugrañes i Gras. Built of brick, the arena seats 19,582 spectators across 26 rows of boxes and stands, and can accommodate up to 25,000 for concerts and other events. It was the last bullring in Catalonia to hold commercial bullfighting, hosting its final corrida in 2011 following a parliamentary ban enacted in 2010. Now managed by the Casa Matilla and owned by the Balañá family, La Monumental hosts sporting, musical, and circus events.
