Spanning the Brenta River in Bassano del Grappa, the Ponte Vecchio is a covered wooden bridge designed by Andrea Palladio in 1569 and completed in 1570. Built as an arch bridge, it has endured repeated destruction and reconstruction, most notably during World War II, when it was subsequently rebuilt by the Alpini in 1948. The bridge once served as a vital link for communication and commerce along the Brenta, connecting the mountains of Grappa to Venice in the eighteenth century. Designated a national monument of Italy, it stands as both a masterwork of Renaissance engineering and a testament to the region's resilience.
