The Ponte della Costituzione is the fourth bridge spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and installed in 2008. Completed as a striking contemporary addition to the city's medieval and Renaissance infrastructure, it connects Stazione di Santa Lucia to Piazzale Roma. The structure combines materials of Istrian stone, trachyte, glass, and steel, rising to a height of 9.28 metres. Officially named to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Italian constitution, it opened to the public on September 11, 2008, though its construction was met with considerable opposition from local politicians and residents. The bridge has since become popularly known as the Calatrava Bridge among Venice's inhabitants.
