Situated on the southern end of the north-east breakwater at Portland Harbour on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, England, the Portland Breakwater Lighthouse is a white hexagonal cast-iron tower standing 22 metres high, built by Chance Brothers in 1905. Originally lit by oil and equipped with a fog bell that sounded every ten seconds in poor visibility, the lighthouse initially displayed a white flash every five seconds with a range of 14 nautical miles. Operated by Trinity House under Admiralty ownership, it was automated in the late 1960s and subsequently modernized with an electric LED lamp. Following restoration in 1995 and again in 2016, the lighthouse continues to aid maritime navigation, now flashing white every ten seconds. Its former optic is housed in Weymouth Museum. Management passed to Portland Port Ltd and the Portland Harbour Authority after the naval base's closure.
