The Holy Trinity Church in Helsinki's Kruununhaka district is Finland's oldest Orthodox church, built between 1826 and 1827 under architect Carl Ludvig Engel's direction. Designed in the neo-classical Empire style, it stands at the corner of Unioninkatu and Rauhankatu. The church was established to serve Helsinki's Orthodox community after Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy in 1808, when Russian civil servants, merchants, and soldiers settled in the city with czarist support for their religious needs. Today it remains active, conducting Divine Liturgy in both Church Slavic and Finnish, and draws many congregants from the post-Soviet immigrant population.
