The Queensway Tunnel, a road crossing beneath the River Mersey between Liverpool and Birkenhead in northwest England, is the longest road tunnel in the UK at 2.13 miles in length. Designed in the Art Deco style, it is locally known as the "old tunnel" to distinguish it from the later Kingsway Tunnel (1971), which carries traffic to Wallasey and the M53 motorway. Also signposted as the Birkenhead Tunnel, it remains a major transport artery connecting the Wirral peninsula to Liverpool.
