Designed by Norman Foster and completed in 2000, the London Millennium Footbridge is a steel suspension bridge carrying pedestrians across the River Thames, connecting Bankside to the City of London. The bridge's opening was marred by unexpected lateral swaying—earning it the nickname "Wobbly Bridge" among Londoners—which forced its immediate closure and a near two-year retrofit beginning in 1998, reopening in February 2002 after extensive safety testing. Positioned between Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Railway Bridge, its southern terminus lies near the Globe Theatre and Tate Modern, while its northern end sits beneath St Paul's Cathedral, with the bridge's design deliberately framing a clear view of the cathedral's south façade. The bridge is owned and maintained by Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust under the City of London Corporation.
