The Nichols Bridgeway is a pedestrian crossing designed by Renzo Piano that links Millennium Park's Great Lawn to the Art Institute of Chicago's Modern Wing, spanning Monroe Street. Completed in 2009, the 620-foot bridge features a distinctive boat-hull-inspired design with a white painted steel understructure, aluminum plank flooring, and stainless steel mesh railings. Built with anti-slip surfaces and heating elements for winter safety, the bridge meets full ADA accessibility standards and was named for donors Alexandra and John Nichols.
