Randolph Field Historic District encompasses the central portion of Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas, and represents the first permanent flight training facility of the United States military, originally established by the Army Air Corps. Built between 1929 and 1931, the district was innovatively planned according to Garden city movement principles and preserves a distinctive assemblage of Mission Revival and Art Deco architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 2001, the district exemplifies early twentieth-century military architectural design and urban planning ideals.
