This residential block on Oudorperstraat in Amsterdam exemplifies the Amsterdam School architectural style with its distinctive wooden gable at the side. Built as a set of eight kitchen dwellings, the building's name commemorates an innovative feature for its time: the placement of the kitchen at the front of the units, a novel arrangement that reflected modernizing domestic life in early twentieth-century Amsterdam. Now designated a Rijksmonument, the structure preserves an important chapter in Dutch residential design and urban housing development.
