The Rice County Courthouse, erected in 1911 in Lyons, Kansas, is a four-story Richardsonian Romanesque structure of brick designed by architect James C. Holland. Measuring 90 by 100 feet in plan, the building features a hipped roof with dormers and a distinctive central clock tower. Its robust masonry and romantic architectural vocabulary exemplify the style's influence on civic architecture of the early twentieth century. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, it remains an important landmark of Rice County.
