Ridge Wood Military Cemetery, located in Voormezeele near Ypres in the Ypres Salient of the Western Front, is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission burial ground designed by George Hartley Goldsmith and Edwin Lutyens. Established to commemorate British Commonwealth soldiers killed in the First World War, the cemetery was granted to the United Kingdom in perpetuity by King Albert I of Belgium as recognition of the British Empire's sacrifices in defending and liberating Belgium. Now a protected monument, the cemetery bears a misspelling of its name on the entrance stone, recorded as "Ridgewood."
