Riversdale is a five-part Federal mansion built between 1801 and 1807 in Riverdale Park, Maryland, originally conceived by Belgian émigré Henri Joseph Stier as a replica of his family's Chateau du Mick. Combining late Georgian exterior design with superior Federal interiors, the house was completed by Stier's daughter Rosalie Stier Calvert and her husband George Calvert after the family's return to Belgium. Once the centerpiece of a 739-acre slave plantation, Riversdale gained historical importance through its association with the Calvert family—notably as the birthplace of Charles Benedict Calvert's vision for the Maryland Agricultural College, which became the University of Maryland, College Park. The mansion, also known as Baltimore House or Calvert Mansion, now operates as a public museum and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1997.
