The Rock County Courthouse stands on State Street in Bassett, Nebraska, a 1939 Art Deco structure designed by E.B. Watson. Built as part of federal work programs during the Great Depression, it exemplifies the County Citadel property type with its rectangular form, centered entrance, and permanent materials. The building's Art Deco styling conveys modernism and civic authority through deliberate simplicity; distinctive features include fireproof vaults and other facilities essential to courthouse function. One of seven Nebraska county courthouses constructed under Depression-era federal programs, it was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 for its architectural significance and role in Rock County's governmental history, with the listing encompassing two contributing buildings.
