The Roman Theatre at Palmyra is an unfinished ancient structure dating to the second-century CE Severan period, situated in the Syrian Desert oasis city of Palmyra. Constructed in the classical Roman architectural tradition, the theatre's remains have been restored over time. The site experienced significant modern disruption when occupied by ISIL in May 2015, before being recaptured by government forces in March 2016 with Russian military support.
